Questions:

What is the quality of the coaching staff at Magnum?
Magnum has the best coaching in the area with more college coaches than any other club in the Midlands.  Click here to see all of our coaches and their biographies.  We post this information so that you can see who will be coaching your daughter.  We let you know what coaches will be coaching what teams before you come to tryouts.  Some clubs do not post information on their coaches and will not let you know who will be coaching your daughter until after you have signed with their club and it is too late for you to change.

How many coaches with college experience does Magnum have?
For the 2009 season Magnum will have at least 6 coaches that are current or former college coaches.  Click here to see them all: College Coaches

What is Magnum's record in the past?
See for yourself.  Click on these links.  2008 rankingsRegional Championships in 2008,. 2009 rankings, 2009 Regional Championships.  You will notice that Magnum is near the top of each division that they had a team in and is the highest ranked club out of all of the Midlands clubs.  Our two 17s teams finished the year second and third out of all 17 and under teams.

How many hours a week does Magnum practice?
Magnum practices more than any other team in the Palmetto Region.  In the off season (Nov, Dec, April) we practice 5 hours a week and in peak season (Jan-March) we practice 7 hours a week.

How many teams are on a net at practice?
Magnum only has one team on each net.  This is important so that the players receive the maximum amount of practice attempts.

How are teams composed?

Magnum players are placed in their age group as much as possible when teams are made.  Very rarely do we move girls up.  At Magnum we want our girls to stay in their age group and play together as long as they can with the same girls year after year so that they can win the region that year and as Seniors.  Small clubs that do not have a lot of girls in each age group or not enough skilled players have to move people up to fill teams.  This weakens all of the other teams.  However, we do want our girls to be challenged so if we feel that a girl needs to be moved up that is above her age group we can do that.

Is position practice offered to the players?
At Magnum not only do we offer position practices we require them.  From January to March we have a 3rd practice a week that is a position practice.  We separate the girls into their positions and work with them and then put them back with the setters at the end to work on timing and offense.  We feel that this sets us apart from the clubs that do not offer this.  This practice is not extra money and everyone comes.

How does the cost of Magnum compare?

Magnum has the lowest cost for the entire season when you compare the tournaments we go to and that we have 2 coaches on each team.  Our price includes going to a Qualifier (either Northeast Qualifier in Baltimore or the Big South Qualifier in Atlanta).  Many clubs stop their season after the Regional Championships.  Our season and price goes through the Qualifier.

Even though we have more coaches per team, more practice hours per week, and we attend more and better tournaments, we are still as low as the other clubs in the Midlands area.  Click here for more info

How does Magnum compare in size to the other clubs in the Midlands?
Magnum Volleyball Club is the largest club in the Midlands area.  Last year we had 14 teams (with Carpe Diem included- which is now one club).  Size can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how well the club is managed and how many quality coaches the club has.  If the club is well coached and managed then being big is an advantage.  If the club does not have good coaches then being bigger and having more teams just means that more girls are not getting the coaching they deserve and are paying for.

Does Magnum continue after the regular club season?

Additional periods of volleyball training can help a player reach the next level.  At Magnum we offer our Magnum Academy which is a 2 month long season where we teams practice and play in one more multi-day USAV tournament and the AAU Championships in Orlando.

Does Magnum make cuts?
Yes!!  We are happy to say that we do.  Not everyone can be a Magnum player.  We feel that cuts are very important for a premier club.  A club that does not make cuts is not going to have the best teams in the area.  Do you want to be on a team where all of the players are not as good as you and some people made the team just because they showed up and paid their money.  Magnum is selective about who is chosen to be on their teams.  We look at skill level, commitment level, athletic ability, etc when we choose who is in Magnum.
